What is it about music that you love? What was the initial spark e.g. a song or band?

I love that music brings you to the world / the world to you – it’s such an essential part of culture, history and politics, and can teach you so much about societies and places you’ve never been. Simply getting hooked on a particular genre or band is enough to get you interested to research and become more worldly.

I’m pretty sure the genesis of my music loving was Disney classics – Disney princesses that is. As a tot, I belted Ariel (The Little Mermaid) shamelessly on repeat. Maybe I still do… not confirming or denying anything.

How do you think music brings people together?

As cliché as it is to say, I love that music really does bring people together, regardless of what side of the stage or mic or world they are on. Songs are a universal way we can all relate, because they distill the messy crazy human condition and experience that we collectively share on this planet.

Why does music work for team building?

I think it helps to set up a fun and stimulating atmosphere – which tricks people into letting loose from ‘office desk mode’ a little, becoming more agreeable, and bonding more easily. Who can resist singing and smiling along to Bon Jovi or Queen when the rest are?

What is your playlist ‘must’ to get motivated or pumped up?

This is always rotating but currently, it’s a toss-up between Dua Lipa’s ‘IDGAF’ and ‘Good As Hell’ by Lizzo ft. Ariana Grande… irresistible! The playlist these go into is titled ‘Gurl U Got Dis’ – never fails to improve my mood and psyche.

What is your favorite aspect of being a SongDivision artist?

The work culture is wonderfully supportive, understanding and whacky at the same time – honestly at this point with the Asia team it feels more like we’re all friends getting together to share the joy and power of musicians with those who engage us. It really doesn’t feel like work half the time. It’s such a blast getting to do what I enjoy and pushing my own creative envelope as a songwriter and lyricist under tight time constraints. It’s also always a special experience being involved in our global virtual events and getting to ‘hang out’, across UK/US/AUS time zones, with a lineup of seriously legendary SD artists… bananas how accomplished they are! And so very humbling.

If you could describe the SongDivision experience in three words, what would they be?

A cosmic treat.

What is one of your favorite SongDivision memories?

The She Brilliance inaugural Event 2021 at MBS – magical because the song just came so naturally and it really felt like the music was conveying an important message, empowering the women who received it.

What is your favorite:

Happy place song: Wannabe, Spice Girls – not sorry! Proof that I’m a 90s baby

Song you can’t help but sing: In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning by Frank Sinatra – jazz ballad standard that tells you how much of a hopeless romantic I really am.
