Meet Leigh Houison, one of our talented SongDivision artists. We asked Leigh to share what he loves about music, why he thinks it brings people together and how the science of music works for teams.

Credits: Top Nashville session musician who has worked with the likes of Martina McBride, Love and Theft

Instrument of choice: Keyboard and Vocals

My first album was Michael Jackson – Bad. LP

What is it about music that you love? What was the initial spark e.g. A song or band?
The thing I love most about music is that there is no wrong input. It’s all valid. You don’t have to be a virtuoso to enjoy it, listen to it, play it or create it.

How do you think music brings people together?
With a shared experience, whether it’s a concert, a specific song or piece of music. There is no other form of art/entertainment that can inspire large groups of people to recite words or melody in unison.

Why does music work for team building?
Because it inspires engagement on multiple levels. Sensory, memory, emotions etc, things all human beings can relate to!

What is your playlist ‘must’ to get motivated or pumped up?
Right now, it’s “One Phone Call” by the Night Game.

What is your favorite aspect of being a SongDivision artist?
The privilege of helping others express themselves through the art of song writing.

If you could describe the SongDivision experience in three words, what would they be?
Creative, unique, fun

What is one of your favorite SongDivision memories?
Either getting to perform a live stream broadcast band event to over 100,000 people, or my first team anthem event in Nashville last year! It was so memorable because up until that point, I had done almost 2 years of remote/virtual events for clients. It felt so good to be in the same room as everyone as we wrote music together. There’s nothing like that energy of collaborating in person.

What is your favorite:
a. Happy place song: Stevie Wonder – Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing
b. Song you can’t help but sing: Prince & The Revolution – Raspberry Beret
c. Song that motivates you: Coldplay – Fix You (When those drums hit!)
